Information on Logging into the Cluster

Cluster User Accounts

Line: 7 to 7
In order to log onto the CNBC Cluster, each user must have a personal "SCS user account" (note that this is different from an account on raptor). Although we will NOT support lab accounts, we do support lab and project directories and UNIX groups to share files. An SCS user account will provide you with a Kerberos ID and password that can be used to login to the Cluster.
If you do not have an account on the CNBC Cluster, you can apply for one by returning (fax or email) a new user form.
If you do not have an account on the CNBC Cluster, you can apply for one by emailing David Pane (dpane@andrew.cmu.edu) ALL OF the following information:
Please return the SCS user account form to the CNBC's Manager Computing Resources, David Pane. (The CNBC does pay a monthly fee for each SCS user account, so we ask that you only apply for an account if you plan to use the cluster.)

Notes for when you are filling out the account application:

  • If you don't already have a CMU Computer Science Department account, select "Cluster User".
  • The Cluster Name is: Psycho
  • Leave the Sponsor Information and Oracle String/Budge Number Blank.
When David processes the application, he will need to know your PI's name. If you already have an CMU SCS account or had one in the past, please let him know that as well.
1) Your Andrew ID:
2) Your Name:
3) Your CMU Email Address:
4) CMU Affiliation (Choices are: Faculty, Staff, Ph D Student, Masters Student, Undergraduate Student, Visitor, External Collaborator or Other (please specify): ___ )
5) Did you previously had a SCS account, what was your prior SCS Username?
6) Do you want your account notification sent to an additional email address? If yes, please indicate that address here:
7) PI and Lab in which you are affiliated.
8) Phone number (preferably a cell phone) in case David needs to contact you anytime during which you have an account on the cluster.
9) Non CMU email that we can contact you:
Once your SCS account has been created you will receive an email from SCS with setting password information. David will let you know when the cluster account has been created.

Information you may find helpful when logging onto the Cluster.

Users are required to log onto the Cluster's Head Node ( psych-o.hpc1.cs.cmu.edu ) using the SCS user id and password over a secure connection. This method of login is is called SSH. Macs have a built-in application for SSH that can be accessed at the command line. Locate the command line by launching
terminal, located in your /Applications/Utilities folder. Windows users can find many different programs for SSH. One of the most popular of these is PuTTY.
